Be sure you take a first-aid kit with you into nature because accidents just happen, and it's always better to be safe than sorry. Dryer lint is a great item to bring if you are trying to start a campfire. Collect your dryer lint about a month before you go camping. Place a bag near your tumble dryer and just stuff lint from the dryer's filter into the bag every time it is full. Make sure that you avoid any venomous plants. A good way to do this is to stop at the ranger station and ask what kinds of poisonous plants are in the area so you can identify them if you come into contact with them on the trail. Never eat anything while hiking on the trail if you do not know it is edible.

Before you bring your dog along for a camping trip, get him used to the idea with a little practice run in the back yard. Pitch the tent in an already familiar area, and let him sleep or play in it for a while. Bringing a dog can really add to the fun of camping, so long as the animal has been adequately prepared for the event.
